Types of Special Steel Casting

The speciality paper produced by our company mainly include the following types:

Stainless Steel Francis Runner

The crown, the band and the blades are sand cast and machined separately before being integrated into a whole by welding. We are capable of manufacturing crowns, bands or blades weighing not more than 6000 kg individually. The products can be delivered as cast, semi-machined, or machined.

Electro-slag Remelting Casting(ESRC) Wicket Gate

The result of ultrasonic tests proves to meet the requirement of CCH70-3 and the highest level of ASTM A609, 1-2 levels higher than the result of sand mold castings. Cavitation resistance is increased by 30% compared with sand mold castings. Metal mold casting process creates less environmental pollution.

Electro-slag Remelting Casting(ESRC) Guide Vanes

The guide vanes are used on large sized hydraulic power generators. Possible materials include 20SiMn, Q345C carbon steel, low-alloy steel, as well as stainless steel. Fixed guide vanes for hydraulic power stations are manufactured with electro-slag remelting casting technology here at SRIF, instead of the traditional production method with steel slabs. Guide vanes of superior quality and higher stiffness can thus be produced with much lower costs, and within a shorter production cycle.

Electro-slag Remelting Casting(ESRC) Guide Vanes

Electro-slag remelting casting(esrc) guide vanes have many advantages, including: ESR is shown to lead to a high yield of alloying elements, low levels of impurities and non-metallic inclusions (NMIs) and a refinement of the final microstructures due to slight changes in the chemical composition.

Application of Special Steel Casting

Stainless Steel Francis Runner

Stainless steel francis runner can be used for a variety of purposes, including: This is the most efficient hydraulic turbine. The large stainless steel francis runner is individually designed for the site to operate at the highest possible efficiency, typically over 90%. Francis-type units cover a wide head range, from 20 to 700 m and their output varies from a few kilowatts to 200 megawatts. In addition to electrical products and they May also be used for pumped storage; where reservoir is filled by the turbine (acting as a pump) during low power demand, and then reversed and used to generate power during peak demand.

Precautions for Use Stainless Steel Francis Runner

Using a runner with a low specific speed can also help avoid cavitation. The turbine can operate without encountering cavitation issues by selecting a runner design that matches the specific speed requirements.

Designing a cavitation-free runner requires extensive research and optimization. Cavitation can be effectively avoided by carefully engineering the runner to meet specific conditions.

Reducing cavitation effects can be achieved by polishing the runner's surface. Coating cast steel runners and blades with stainless steel enhances their resistance to cavitation.

Choosing materials with better resistance to cavitation can reduce its effects. Cast steel is preferable to cast iron, and stainless steel or alloy steel provides even greater resistance against cavitation.

Selecting a runner with the appropriate specific speed for the given head helps in preventing cavitation. Proper matching of specific speed ensures smooth turbine operation without encountering cavitation-related challenges.

FAQ

Q: What material is used for turbine runners?

A: CA-6NM castings are commonly used for turbine runners and wicket gates. The material is a 13-4 martensitic stainless steel developed in the early 1960's as an alternative to CA-15 stainless steel.

Q: What are the materials used in Francis turbine?

A: The Francis turbine runner material is stainless steel 0Cr13Ni4Mo, blades are CNC machined. it needs to customized according to your project water head & flow.

Q: What is the best material for water turbine blades?

A: The final material property chosen for the turbine blade is density. A low density is extremely vital for better running performance as well as increased efficiency of the system as lighter blades will rotate more easily. The material widely used is stainless steel.

Q: What are the construction details of Francis turbine?

A: Runner: the core part with blades, converting water energy to rotational energy. Spiral casing: guides water efficiently towards the runner. Guide vanes: control water flow to maintain optimal efficiency. Draft tube: expels water and maintains pressure balance.

Q: What is the process of ESR remelting?

A: In the ESR process, an electrode is prepared by casting or forging after the conventional melting, refining and casting process. The melting of the electrodes occurs in the mould by heating caused by the electric resistance of the slag.

Q: What is the composition of slag in ESR?

A: During the ESR process, due to presence of an active slag which is essentially a mixture of CaF2, CaO and A12O3, sulphur removal from the liquid metal takes place rapidly.

Q: What is the difference between ESR and Vim?

A: Electroslag Remelting (ESR) is a secondary melting process. After vacuum induction melting (VIM), electroslag remelting of the alloy is generally performed in order to further improve the purity of the superalloy.

Q: How does temperature affect ESR?

A: The reduction in ESR value was smaller in samples stored at 4 °C than in those stored at room temperature. A significant decrease in ESR was observed when samples were stored for 12 h at 4 °C or for 8 h at 23 ± 2 °C.
